Apple IIe card for LC

When reading this keep in mind I know nothing of Apple II computers. I'm
involved with a Montessori school where I live and they have two Apple
IIgs's & an Apple IIc. All three are dying a slow (the IIc rapid) death.
We also now have two Mac LC's. There is a movement afoot by the members
(myself included) to move to the regular Mac line and pick up a couple more
LC's to replace the two IIgs's in the classrooms (by the way, these
computers are/will be used by 3-6 year old children). One of the existing
LC's is already slated to replace the IIc.

The problem is we have a fair bit of children's programs for the Apple II
machines. I know that one can buy a IIe card that will fit in an LC, LCII
or LCIII. My question is that can one run IIgs software on one of these IIe
cards? Or just software written specifically for the IIe? If not, we may
just not bother with the cards, write off the software, move to the Macs,
and pick up some new software. Anyone's thoghts on this would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks in advance!
