This seems to be the case. About a month back, I ordered their free
startup kit by calling the automated voice-mail system (real nice, they
mess up your address information, so it gets delayed or lost!) and later,
just a week ago, did receive their Apple IIgs starter-kit. One little
drawback here, the IIgs software diskette was missing! Everything else was
there, Apple II manual, letter, brochure, etc...all expect the software!
It was opened at the Canadian border and then resealed however, so it's
possible the customs people lost or stole the disk (maybe they too have some
something against Apple IIs ;-) ). Whether or not AOL or customs removed the
disk remains a mystery though.
I called AOL's customer service that same day, and was told I could
only get the DOS, Windows or Macintosh clients. When asking about the Apple
IIgs version, I was told they were no longer supporting it and that I must
upgrade <caugh!> to a DOS or Macintosh machine to run their software. I asked
about the missing disk, but they claimed they didn't know and there was no way
I could be sent an Apple II/IIgs one.. :/ So much for joining up with AOL.
