I haven't bothered with Almost OnLine for a long time, primarily because of
too many pre-pubescent assholes, but also because I can't stand to be told
what software I _have_ to use to get on the board. At least most places on
the Internet are a little more sensible, allowing a variety of entries. I
prefer services that I can negotiate with an automatic script, like CIS and
GEnie and other "normal" boards.

I would like to think that this will continue to be the case - that there
will always be places that permit access without trying to be exclusive, or
trying to wield a monopolistic control over either users' hardware or their
software.
