It's not even a yea or nay matter.  The bottom line is that Apple II's are
one topic/interest/hobby/whatever and the internet is another.  If a
discussion involves overlap between the two topics then posting to this
group is appropriate.  In general, simply accessing the the internet via
an Apple II does not make discussion about the internet relevant to the
apple2 groups.  On the other hand, posts about Apple-specific internet
software or Apple II information available on the internet will surely be
welcomed.

comp.sys.apple2 isn't a launching platform like GEnie.  It is one subdivision
of the overall USENET hierarchy and unlike most of the alt.* groups, has a
charter.  Traditionally, people would learn how to use USENET in general
and then select newsgroups relevant to particular topics.  Besides,
if you don't adhere to the policies of the "main" newsgroups
(rec, sci, comp, misc, news) CRL may even restrict your ability to post on
USENET, especially if people complain to postmaster@crl.com.

I followed your suggestion to put you in my killfile until I noticed this
thread.  But I'd rather see people defending the integrity of this
newsgroup than non-newbies having to put you in all their killfiles.
Besides, internet lessons might even provoke people in the Mac and PC
newsgroups to bombard this group with "Apple II's are lame" messages.

If you truly want to educate people about the internet, then please have
your first installments address the organization and correct usage of
USENET.  If you don't know where to start, I recommend the newsgroups
news.announce.newusers and news.newusers.questions.
