icon and file types question

I recently bought Pointless which I installed and started to follow the
manual. One of the first things it mentioned is that bit mapped fonts
would appear with an icon that said Font (with the F being an olde
english script type font), and TrueType fonts' icon would be a layered
A. As you might guess neither was true. The icons for both were
identical and were the word Font with a more normal F.

After a great deal of moving icons out of the ICONS folder I found that
Seven Hills' "Font Factory GS," had such an icon. When it was removed
the bit mapped and Trutype icons were as advertised.

Looking at the Font Factory GS with an icon editor I found that it was
for file type $CA, Auxtype $0. Since TrueType fonts are type $CA,
Auxtype $1 I didn't see why this was happening.

Somewhat of an update. I have the updated Apple File Type notes which
does not contain information about every file type, only those that
have changed, however, for file type $42 it says that the Ftype.Apple
has an entry for filetypes and the flagword has
a bit (15) that, if set, causes a match between this filetype and ANY
aux type.

Further, a general note about Ftype.Apple in general says that non
Apple folks cannot change this file under pain of Deatherage, so I
guess my question is two fold:

1. Why do TrueType fonts show up as "normal" fonts if the Font
Factory GS icon file is loaded?

2. If my analysis above is correct, how do we get an Apple
generated Ftype.Apple that corrects the problem?

Kind Regards,
