Applewriter is now supposed to be in the Public DOmain. I'm
not sure which version was released, but I could probably
dig up a copy of the ][+ version. I think this is available
through Genie, but it may only be the //e version.
Applewriter is a good WP. It is a bit dated and does not
try to be WYSIWYG but it has all kinds of features (like
mailmerge) available ythrough it's WPL (word processing
language). Not to user friendly.
The classic apple ][ word processor is Appleworks (actually
just one part of an integrated WP/Spredsheet/DB. As sold
it would not work on the ][+. Both Videx (I think) and
Applied Engineering sold patches to use with their
80 collumn cards to use Appleworks on the ][+. The best
patch was/is? called Plusworks by Norwich Data Systems. If you'd
like I could dig up info. To use PLusworks you will need;
][+ with at least 64 K (48k on motherboard + 16K "language card)
;and 80 column card, 1 drive; an unmodified copy of the Appleworks
disk (Probably has to be <v3.0) and Plusworks. It will patch
your disk and then you just use that from then on. With 64K
you will only have about 10K available for documents. Unlike
most of the other patches Plusworks will work with a variety
of memeory expansion schemes.
zTher are a few other free WP's oput there including one called
Freewriter. To do anyhting serious you will need an
80 column card (and of course, a printer!) :)
Good Luck
