The only advantages I can think of: a DeskWriter has a faster serial
connection (but no parallel connection) and can be connected to
AppleTalk (LocalTalk). I don't know if an AppleTalk DeskWriter can be
used from the IIgs, since the IIgs "NetPrinter" Control Panel only
knows about Apple-supplied printers. You could write a third-party
control panel to select the printer (maybe one is included with
Harmonie or Independence?)
There are disadvantages, of course: no support for ASCII text output
(basically making it useless from any ProDOS-8 program) and no
parallel port.
