       You were on the right track to solder the connections. I have fixed
 several keyboards with this problem. Since you let it go for so long I would
suggest ohming the leads between the connecter and the first connection node
on the keyboard. I suspect you may have a broken trace which would require
soldering a fine piece of wire to bridge the break. I also use 5 min epoxy
to glue the connecter to the circuit board to act as a strain relief after I
am sure the connections are fixed.
