This is on a GS? Hmmmm. Never heard of anything doing this naturally;
it sounds like an init that's gone awry or something. Does this happen
when you shift-boot? If so, GS/OS is probably mucked up; just do a
reinstall from the system disks.
If you shift-boot, and it disappears, it's some sort of system
addon. From the finder, go through the various items in System.Setup,
Desk.Accs, and CDevs, deactivating a bunch, then rebooting. If you
activate/deactivate large swaths of them, you can find out what group
it's in very quickly.
