There are other ways to use an MS-DOS FST... Any SCSI Device which can
be hooked up to both a //gs and an IBM should work, or would work, if
there weren't some annoying limitations.
Apparently, there are at least two sizes or implementations
of a FAT (File Allocation Table?) in MS-DOS. The current FST only
supports the smaller one, which means that it only works with small
(32 or 64?)mb volumes. A friend of mine has one of those 128mb
Magneto Optical drives, and while it works fine on both the //gs and
the IBM (in their respective filesystems), if you try to use an MS-DOS
cartridge on the GS, it appears to accept it (the finder makes swishing
noises like it's set to for normal disks), it doesn't ask you to
initialize it, but nothing ever shows up on the desktop. I really hope
they fix this limitation too. BTW, the above information regarding the
FST and FAT size was recieved by me courtesy of Jawaid Bazyar. Thanks!
The 20mb "floptical" drives which are out, would probably work
fine, I would think, as should like a 20mb SCSI Hard Drive. Just go
pick up a scsi card for your IBM...
