Adjusting an ImageWriter II

Does anyone know how to adjust the IW II to eliminate streaks on your
printout?  There is this little plastic guide mounted on the printhead
that seems to be the answer, but I cannot seem to get it adjusted so
that it eliminates all of the streaks.  Can anyone offer advice?
