modem programs

     I've just got myself a modem with some software for transfering 
ascii files, but I haven't got any software for converting these ascii 
files to binary are applesoft or whatever. I know there is shuch a 
program that exists. I was wondering if there is anyone out there who may 
have a copy of this program or may got to the trouble of giving me a list 
of the program(binary or applesoft) for me?( Doesn't matter if it is a 
really big program). Also I note that many files are shrinked. Has anyone 
got a program that would shrink and unshrink these files that someone 
could get me?
   Any help is appreciated.
