You may want to try Assembly. If you find a reasonable macro
assembler it will fit your needs perfectly. 6502 assembly is not too hard
to learn (compared with 80X86 and 370 assembly). There are several good
assemblers out there. In fact I have heard rave reviews of the original
8 bit Orca/M, Lisa, and a couple of others.
