Re: Unloading CDAs

I haven't finished reading this thread, but lots of messages
have gone by w/o mentioning one excellent, though
flawed, way to remove Memory Peeker and Visit Monitor
on the ROM 3.

Do option-control-reset and reset the BRAM to standard settings.
You'll lose your other settings, but this definitely
twiddles the BRAM bit. You might also need to power off/on
after reseting BRAM.

I don't know if Apple's SetStart twiddles BRAM. I put
out two tiny programs a long time ago. One to set
the bit and one to clear it. Anyone want them
in comp.binaries.apple2? (Btw, there is no need
to keep a control panel installed permanently
for the CDA's. Just run a tiny app once to set/clear
the setting.)

Also, re: the RAM disk on ROM 3. It is a known bug
that it isn't created if you have 8 MB additional RAM.
System 6.0.1 fixes this. The fix is in the ProDOS boot
stub and is run even if you run ProDOS 8 by pressing
8 (I'm pretty sure.) I too notice slight delays
at boot when I have a larger RAM disk (800K).
