>>>Joe says we need a net.cop
No, no, no. I never said we needed a net cop.
As it is now, I cannot find any mention in the FAQ about adding file
descriptions to files uploaded to c.b.a2. So, it's a convention that has
been accepted by 'word of mouth', but net newbies really have no idea that
they are supposed to conform to that convention.
What I was suggesting was a volunteer, not a moderator. What I propose is
that the volunteer write up two short, one paragraph emails. One would go
to people who post messages on c.b.a2, and the other one would go to people
who upload programs to c.b.a2.
The first note could simply inform people, politely, that posting messages
on c.b.a2 is a no-no, and include a list of the other groups in the c.s.a2
hierarchy.
The second note could thank the uploader for sharing their upload with the
rest of us, and politely explain that there is an unwritten agreement that
explains why file descriptions are a good thing.
On Genie's A2, there is a librarian. One of his duties is to write a thank
you note. GEnie's A2 library has 22,000 uploads. On CompuServe, if you
upload a file, no one contacts you to thank you for your upload. The CIS
Apple II library has 3,000 files.
I believe that there is a connection. Courtesy pays.
If a volunteer steps forth, I'll write the notes.
