AI Innerdrive - Help!

Help! I just bought a used Rom01 GS with a AI Innerdrive (40Meg). It
was working when I bought the system. But after I brought it home and
set up the GS, the AI hd no longer works. The powersupply is good, and
the computer is fine. But GS/OS refuses to boot all the way if the
Innerdrive is activated (ie, if the slot (7) is set to 'your card'), but
of course GS/OS boots if the slot is set to 'Appletalk'. I've tried
GS/OS v4.0, v5.02, v5.04, v6.0, and v6.0.1. I've tried the AI Formatter/
Utilities v4.6 disk. No go! The boot always hangs at the point the drive
activity light comes on. I've tried with and without the innerdrive
driver in the drivers folder. I've tried with and without the Apple
SCSIHD driver (the AI readme file indicates that there is a conflict
with the SCSIHD driver and not to have both in the drivers folder.)

I can boot into p8. Davex reports a ProDOS block device in s7, but any
attempt to access the drive (cat, online, etc.) causes a bomb into the
monitor at $00/D000. C700L produces a ROM listing that appears plausible
although I have no way of knowing if it is VALID innerdrive ROM code :)
c7fe.c7ff is : 1F 47 I believe. I don't have my tech notes handy to decode
this info and I can't remember the significance.

I have forgotten most of what I have read about the AI Innerdrive. No written
docs came with the system. Is the Innerdrive a SCSI system? Can I hook the
drive up to a Apple SCSI rev C card? Can I replace the Western Digital drive
with another SCSI HD? Does my problem sound a controller card problem or a
drive problem? (My wife says my problem is I'm addicted to old computer hard-
ware :) )

Anyway, I bought this computer for the HD, and now the HD doesn't work!
For what it is worth. The person I bought it from was a computer neophyte.
I really doubt he used the head parking utilities before he boxed the system
up for me. So even if the drive heads crashed after transit and powering up
the first time, why doesn't GS/OS boot - even with no SCSI drivers in the
drivers folder!

I'd appreciate any advice or information before I turn the innerdrive and
controller into a doorstop :(
