help: Koala pad/connector info
I recently bought a Koala Pad for $1 at a thrift store, and it is the
apple 2 version. I'd like to figure out how to connect this to another
machine, but I don't have any docs on it, and the circuit inside is
nontrivial. The connector looks like a 16 pin chip with a cable coming
out of it. I imagine this plugs into some kind of standard apple2
port, so if anyone has guesses as to what that port might be and has
the pinouts for it, please let me know. Here's all the info I have
discovered by looking at the circuit board:
Pin comments
--- --------
1 appears to be +5V
2 connects to button #1
3 connects to button #2
6 ???
8 appears to be ground
10 ???
I am not quite sure how this thing works, but basically, it is a little
pad (8 inch square approx) with 2 buttons. Supposedly, you can touch
different parts of it, and it will know where you touch it.
Given what I have discovered above, I imagine that 6 and 10 are some sort
of X and Y position like on an analog joystick, but then I got to thinking
that there must be some way for it to know if you are touching it or not,
or if you are touching it in more than one place. So maybe it is something
else.
If you have any information, or know where it might be, please let me
know. Thanks.
Greg
P.S. I'll post the results just in case someone else is interested.
