I don't understand this problem.
I have a superdrive controller card in slot 5 ('your card') with two 3.5"
drives (1 FDHD and an apple 3.5) and still manage to have a RAM disk on my
ROM 1 GS. I set the RAM disk in the control panel to 1440k (the size of
a HD disk) and it never fails to appear on my desktop. (even when I reset
the machine, the data is preserved)

Your lucky to have a ROM 3, and be able to use slot 4 as well as use the
mouse. But I have no problem with the SuperDrive card (I can't recall if
it was a problem pre system 6...)
