System Bad and other queries. Please help!

I'm borrowing my friend'ss ROM 03 GS (I have my own ROM 01 GS, as well).  He
has a 9Mhz/64k cache ZIP GS, a RamFAST SCSI card (not sure of the revision),
and a 4meg AE GS-RAM III installed.  Anyway, I've been noticing quite
a few crashes with his computer, especially when an application comes up
with a file chooser box (e.g. Appleworks GS's first screen where you 
choose which file you'd like to open.)  Getting frustrated, I had the
GS perform a self-diagnostic (option-open apple-control-reset.)  It
came back with "System Bad $0C000005."  Can anyone tell me what this means
or how I may fix my crashing problems?

Also, the hard drive my friend has hooked to the RamFAST is a 120meg
iDS drive.  I'd like to reformat this drive into one big HFS partition.
Will I still be able to boot off this drive or will I have to put a 
ProDOS partition on it for the system files?  Also, are there any hard
drive backup/restore programs for GS HFS drives (I have heard that there
are none)?

Finally, I'd like to be able to hook these machines together using the
GS's built in appletalk.  However, appletalk uses slot 7 and the
RamFAST on my friend's machine and the AE Vulcan card on my machine
are both in slot 7.  Can I still network these computers?  How can this
be done?
