As someone who ha sbuilt a IIe from parts, I think I can help a bit. The
keyboard encoder, or the keyboard ROM are most likely your problems. They're
both on the main board. The encoder is an AY-3600-PRO or a KB3600-PRO. The pro
stands for PROM. AY-3600 chips without the PRO have their own ROM, and do not
require the extra ROM like the IIe does. THESE CHIPS ARE VERY HARD TO GET HOLD
OF. In fact if anyone knows where I could get one I'd be glad to know, as
currently I'm using a homebuilt keyboard encoder with my IIe. The other chip is
an Apple specific part, the KB ROM. I couldn't get hold of one of these in NZ,
so was forced to use an EPROM instead, which I had burned from a friends. the
EPROM is 2 pins longer, but these can be hotwired direct to the motherboard.
Hope this helps you some.
