Nathan Mates (nathan@cco.caltech.edu) screamed from comp.sys.apple2:
: Dr Tom, if you remember, has create a number of outlandish,
: blatantly false claims concerning the VAMPS disks (My challenge to
: Auri still holds to you as well: If you feel that any song does indeed
: validate the claims, post it to the net, and let us judge for
: ourselves.
Well, as a matter of fact, I've never found a VAMPS song that really
reproduced the touted effects - whether it's been because of a sound card
problem (it not being good enough as mentioned in the docs), or just because
it just doesn't plain exist, I don't know. But that's why I've ignored them
and/or never sent in the shareware fee and deleted them, just as I do to
anybody's work that I don't care for.
Sector-editing is a tricky thing. Just in that identity hacking is not the
hardest thing to do online. All that's needed is a name to put on the end of
the docs, and edit into a program. Though I can't affirm or deny whether or
not anyone did anything - I wasn't around during the time it happened. Just
my $.02.
I also understand what you say in that csa2* has appealed much more to the
programmer and the power user, and so it's really a matter of dealing with
your peers here. This is exactly why I want to coallate these feelings.
(unoffical, unconnected comment): I don't think the group would last long
without Tom to co-ordinate it. I don't know if anyone else has the time,
enthusiasm, or disregard to debt that he's shown to keep the group going.
It's primarily why the VAMPS have been discontinued, and why I've advised
him to refrain from ANY programming at all, and act ONLY as coordinator.
In any case, I do appreciate you (as well as others) speaking your mind
about the group. It certainly has not had a perfect past, or ever a fair
past. The new question would be then, what would 1WSW have to do to satisfy
you?
[in closing to all: thanks for keeping the negativity in check - i'm
sure the last thing anyone wants is mad raving on csa2]
