Easy fix for this one.  Get into Finder, then:

- Open the boot volume
- Open the System folder
- Open the Drivers folder
- Locate the icon for SCC.MANAGER
- Click on it and select Icon Info from the Special menu.
- Click on the "Inactive" check box (it should now be marked).

Alternatively, you can delete this file if you are not likely to ever
want to use AppleTalk.  You can always install it again if necessary.


The problem is that the System 6.0.1 "Easy Update" installation option
always installs this file on a hard drive, whether or not you have
AppleTalk enabled, and whether or not you previously had AppleTalk
files on the drive.  This is a bug in the Easy Update install script.

The Customize "System 6: Hard disk or FDHD" option (which I used)
doesn't install this file, if I remember rightly.


Another poster suggested that the installer script could be patched to
fix this problem.  Probably, but it isn't a normal Installer script -
the Easy Update script is stored in a special form in a resource of the
Installer program.
