This may be stretching it, but maybe inside your GS, a couple of the
connections of the game I/O port (looks like an IC socket) got shorted out by
a piece of metal, or maybe a buildup of dirt (unlikely, but hey, it's work
checking). This game I/O port has connections for multiple joysticks, and has
joystick button inputs (Pins 2,3,4, and 9 are switch inputs, pin 8 is a
ground, and pins 1 and 5 are +5V).

You could also check to see whether any of the internal keyboard connections
are shorted (if you have any installed), or if the solder points where the
connectors could be located are shorted.

Try cleaning out your GS, just in case any dirt has built up on the circuit
board. Before doing this, ground yourself on the power supply.


---Hey, one question, I was looking at the schematics for the GS in the
Hardware Reference... what is the W1 connector used for? It is marked
"Soundjump", and seems to add a low input to a logic gate.
