This is a bug I myself have experienced with System 6.0. I'm not sure if
it still exists with 6.0.1. I think the bug steps in whenever the amount
of memory taken up by the font at the current size is over 64 Kb. In other
words, the point size that the bug steps in at depends on which font
you're using. (For TrueType fonts, I'm talking about the size of the
bitmap font that gets rendered by Pointless, not the size of the original
TT font.)

This leads to another bug. I'm not sure if it's in the System Software,
AppleWorks GS, or both. When you use the option-shift easter egg or a
freeware patch to allow point sizes over 48 point, bugs that cause weird
text alignment kick in at the same time as the italics bug. The fix is to
turn on italics for the messed-up text. It will stay plain, but the
alignment will be fixed.
