3.5" SCSI H-Disk in Disk ][ casing

Installing Hard Drive in Apple Disk ][ Casing: Comments sought

I have a 50 meg Quantum 3.5" hard drive attached to my Apple IIe, and it
works perfectly.  But it is in a monster-sized "shoebox" style external
casing that occupies prime table space on a short cable next to my
computer.

I am considering remounting the hard disk in a Disk ][ casing;
comments are solicited from readers:

Why do it?

1. Sentimental attachment to the Disk ][.
2. Smaller "footprint" on the desk.
3. I have several Disk ][ casings; also have a spare Apple ][ power supply
   that ought to give the correct voltages required (12 volts, 5 volts).

My plan is to have the Apple ][ power supply externally mounted so that it
rests
on a shelf under the computer table, with power wires going to the back of the
drive box.

Would have to cut openings in the metal panel at the back of the Disk ][ to
allow (a) installation of the SCSI connector, and (b) installation of a small
12 volt fan.

The cast iron "guts of the Disk ][ would be entirely removed.  The front panel
would be cemented in place, the hinged door secured in place.  The red LED
on the front panel would be used, being wired to the SCSI "in use" lamp
port.


QUESTIONS:

1. Will the standard Apple ][ power supply supply the correct voltages needed
for a SCSI hard drive?  What is the color-code for the Apple II power supply
and to which terminals on the 4-conductor IBM-style connector should those
wires be attached?

2. Will there be enough power to operate the hard drive and also enough to run
a 12 volt muffin fan?

3. Is the LED on the front panel of the Disk ][ plate of the correct voltage
etc. to be used with the "in use" lamp port on the SCSI hard drive?

4. Can the hard drive be rested on cushioning foam in the box, since there is
no way to mount a 3.5" adapter-bracket?  Cooling air flow through the Disk ][
housing should be excellent, since I would use a fan, and air will flow
through
the front vent area to the fan exhaust at the rear.  With the Apple ][ power
supply being mounted externally several feet away, is there even a need for
a colling fan at all?

5. What complications should be anticipated?
