High density media actually has THINNER magnetic media than older media.
The high density read/write heads are more sensitive and write in thinner
tracks. With the older read/write heads found in Disk II's you are able to
alter
the data on the wrong side of the floppy, and hence not get the results you
want.

 At least this is my understanding of stuff that I've heard.
