Ah - I suspected there might be one. I used a CDSC (the original one)
a long time ago, and I thought there was a ProDOS-8 "CD Remote" program
with it. My more recent drive experimentation has been with a
second-hand CDSC, which didn't have any software with it.

I assume you mean that it doesn't support audio on a CD-300. It
supports audio on the CDSC, CDSC-Plus and CD-150. (I've only used it
with the CDSC, but Apple's CD-ROM documentation clearly states that
the CDSC-Plus is supported as well.)
The same applies to the original SCSI card (with Revision C ROM). It
probably doesn't support all features of the CDSC-Plus or CD-150, but
should be able to use the standard audio commands.
