There are large limits imposed by various parts of the system
software:

- No more than 256 desk accessories in total (either type), because
there are only 256 user IDs available for desk accessories.

- No more than 240 NDAs (or thereabouts) - Desk Manager limitation.

- No more than 255 (I think) CDAs - Desk Manager limitation.

You are obviously limited by total memory, and inconvenience if your
menus get to full to find anything.

There shouldn't be any NDAs or CDAs which allocate "special" memory
(bank 0 or 1), so you shouldn't be having any other memory conflicts.

The most likely cause: buggy software.

Next most likely cause: conflict between two or more INITs, NDAs,
CDAs, CDEVs, FEXTs, etc. Does the problem go away if you shift-boot
("No Inits/DAs")?

Third most likely: random fault in your IIgs. Do you have an
accelerator?

Someone else mentioned the Sound CDEV. I have this installed, and I
don't get random GS/OS crashes unless I have a bug in a program I'm
working on which causes memory corruption. :-)
