I have had the sound CDEV problem mentioned above. While starting the CDEVs
at boot time, as the icons step across the screen bottom, the machine would
crash as it started the sound CDEV. Most of the time, it would boot once
from a power off state properly. Any reboot after that would fail while
loading the sound CDEV at boot time. The $0043 code rings a bell. (File
not found?? I could see every registered sound file from finder. I knew
which files I wanted, what planet is the machine searching?)

I upgraded to 6.0.1 (from 6.0) hoping that this would fix the problem. Wrong.
I gave up and set the "inactive" bit for the sound CDEV from the finder. I
figured that this was a small price to pay for things to work. I could not
find a combination of NDA/INIT's which would let me use the sound CDEV.

A few weeks ago, I upgraded to GNO 2.0.4 (from 1.0+) and while I was at it, I
completely reinstalled 6.0.1. not upgraded. I figured that a complete
refresh of all the system components couldn't hurt.

TA DA!!!! Sound CDEV has been solid as a rock.

I cannot say that the full reinstallation of GS/OS did it, but, I also
cannot say that it didn't. The result of all my disk swapping is a
fully functional system with no weird behaviours. (At least, no
intolerably weird behaviours. :)
