KOALA PAD: change 16-pin plug for db9 nine pin plug ??

ATTACHING A DB-9 9-PIN PLUG TO KOALA DRAWING TABLET
FOR USE WITH APPLE IIC COMPUTER

I have obtained a KOALA PAD drawing board. This is a flat trablet, 8" x 8",
which plugs into the 16-pin IC-socket style "game port" connector on the
motherboard of the IIe or II+.

I have several Apple IIc computers and a IIe, all of which have the db-9
nine pin port connector on the back panel. Even when used with the IIe,
the nine pin joystick port is more convenient than using the 16-pin
motherboard
game-port connector. That 16-pin IC socket is hard to reach because my IIe
board is filled with interface cards. Also, I fear that a pin could break off
16-pin male connector of the Koala pad.

I have several broken Apple joysticks that have db-9 nine pin plugs. I
wish to
attach the Koala Pad to one of these nine pin cords. Rather than to make a
messy solder connection, I wish to open the Koala Pad and attach the db-9 cord
directly to the relevant connecting points.

QUESTIONS:

1) Are there any complicatioons in opening the casing of the Koala Pad? Will
springs, etc. fly out? Will it be hard to reassemble?

2) Are the color-codings of the wires in the Koala Pad consistent with the
color codes for the Apple brand db-9 joystick? If the color codings are
inconsistent, what are the mappings (Which wires in the cord attach to which
others in the Koala Pad?

Advice will be appreciated! I will acknowledge all e-mail messages.
