HP DeskJet 500c

I recently purchased an HP DeskJet 500c. Now I'm looking for a driver. The only
ones I have heard about are the Harmonie drivers. A friend of mine who recently
sold his GS sold me an old version of the drivers for a good price. They work
fine with the standard black cartridge, but I can't get them to work with
color! Whenever I insert the color cartridge in and try to print, the print
carriage moves to the center of the printer, and the change cartridge light
starts blinking. According to my manual, this would indicate a faulty
cartridge. But I doubt this is the case because a) the cartridge is brand new,
and b) it prints just fine when I do a self-test.

This brings me to my question. Do I need to buy a newer version of the Harmonie
drivers in order to use color? The ones I bought from my friend are version 2.0
(release of June 17, 1991 on the update text file). Or is there another driver
that I can buy somewhere else that does color? Or am I just being stupid and
missing something obvious?
