Yes, you do need a newer version of Harmonie. However, if you send in your
registration card and write down on it that you need a newer version
(2.0.1 or 2.1, I'm not sure) of Harmonie because of your DeskJet 500C,
you'll get a copy of the latest version for free.

BTW, I ran into a similar problem myself, but with a DeskJet 550C instead.
However, the problem is fixed for both printers in the new version.
