More than a rumour, that was the Apple-recommended fix. The problem was
oxidation on the IC pins, same as in the ][. I'm not sure why they didn't
recommend opening it up and squishing the chips down (also a good way to warm
your hands in the frosty ol' computer lab); perhaps the /// doesn't have the
same sort of pop-up hood access.

Bopping a GS RGB probably isn't the best thing, but I admit I've been doing
it for about a year now. It's getting so I have to bop the thing harder each
time, unfortunately...time to actually replace my soldering iron and have a
go at electrocuting myself.

Not responsible for any seedy connotations of habitually "bopping" a GS
monitor. I don't like my computer *that* much.
