DRWM itself is an application, like the Finder, so it can't be running
at the same time. It allows users of command line interfaces to switch
quickly to a desktop mode for easy access to NDAs, which are otherwise
unaccessable. The program itself is so far unique in that it has no
horizontal menu bar, all menus are brought up by clicking on the desktop.
This does, however, bring up an interesting question. I have a
CDEV for the mac, called NowMenus, which lets you click anywhere on
the desktop, in any application, and bring up that application's menu
in a vertical format, including the apple menu. Each menu's contents
are then hung hierarchically (sp?) off of each item, etc. If this could
be done on the GS, we could eliminate the top menu bar entirely, and free
up some real estate in all applications. Is this feasable, or would it
involve rewriting an entire toolset? Comments?
PS: If it helps, it is similar to the NeXTs menu system.
