Aggrevation = Local Apple Dealer

when i found out that apple was giving free upgrades of the //GS, i was 
thrilled!! i quickly ran out to my local apple dealer, and asked for the 
upgrade.... he then proceded to tell me, that with the GS i have, it's not
free!!! well, i was fuming... so i asked further on... he said, and i quote

"the only FREE upgrade is if you have the one meg motherboard"

i said, well gee, considering i bought my GS when they FIRST came out, i feel
that i deserve a free upgrade... he then told me there was no way that he
could help me in this situation... well, that just aggrivated the living 
#@$@# outa me... i then asked... "how much to upgrade" dealer said "$800"..

Well, needless to say, im still stuck with a GS rom 01 with 512k 
on the motherboard and a 1 meg ram board installed...(oh joy!)

Recently i ran into a fellow who says that apple is supposed to do these 
upgrades no matter what kinda GS you have for FREE... is this true?? if so,
where can i go to get this upgrade? cause my local dealer wont do it for free
like "he's supposed to??" thanks in advance...
