Forget 9600...if you're just now making the jump to high-speed comm,
spend the extra $10-$20 to get a V.32bis (14.4K) modem instead.  I
don't know if anybody even makes V.32 modems anymore; prices on
V.32bis modems have taken a nosedive in recent months.  (I thought the
$250 I spent on my Supra V.32bis a couple of years ago was a steat.
At the time, it was...but today, you can find V.32bis modems selling
for as little as $100.  My DataLink 2400 cost more than that. :-) )
