Assuming you still have access to an Apple II and AppleWorks, one
solution is to use AppleWorks to create a text file version of the
document, then convert that using Apple File Exchange.

Load the WP document, then press Apple-P to print, and choose "to a
text/ascii file on disk". You'll be asked to enter a pathname - type
in a full pathname, including volume and directories (if required).
If you are saving to the same disk as your word processor document,
make sure you use a different file name.

One catch: AppleWorks versions prior to 3.0 have an annoying feature
with their text file output: every line has a carriage return
character placed at the end (in version 3.0 you have the option of
only putting carriage returns at the end of a paragraph, where the
'checkerboard' appears when you do a ZOOM).

Another solution is to use a Macintosh Word Processor which can import
AppleWorks files, such as ClarisWorks, or to use a special translator
for Apple File Exchange which converts AppleWorks files to Microsoft
Works files (I believe this is called "Works to Works", but I don't
know where you can get it).

Either of these methods has the advantage that all formatting
information in the original document will be retained.
