Help: IIGS Alt open apple key appears stuck
I've got I real stumper. I took my IIGS with me on my vacation this summer.
When I returned and set up my computer at home some applications were not
working. Using some diagnostic software I have I found that the open
Apple key appears to stuck down. I Tried my keyboard and cable on another
computer and it worked fine. I tried another keyboard and cable on my
computer and it worked fine. So I opened the computer cleaned it out,
cleaned the ADB connector and did a visual inspection but could not find
anything and these actions did not help. I also tried reseating the Rom
chip. I then used the monitor program
and verified that the register that holds modifier key data (I don't have
that location handy right now) contained the correct data for the open
apple key being pressed or not being pressed. I think this was a SKI
register. Any ways this tells me that the correct information is getting
to the logic board from the keyboard. The next thing I noticed is that
under GS/OS running appleworks GS the open-apple key works correctly.
Most of the applications I run are ProDos applications and any that
utilize the open-apple key are not functioning.
I have no hard drive and run everything from disk.
The only card I have installed is a ramcard.
I have an upgraded Rom , I think 3.
Can anyone help ?
I took my computer in to the local dealer who could only tell me what I
told him when I brought it in for service and wants $260 for a new mother
board plus $60 labor.
Does any one know where I can purchase a rebuilt mother board or possibly
have mine repaired.
