DeskJet (reprise?)

I know a lot of discussion has already been made regarding the DeskJet on the
GS but until now I hadn't thought I'd be upgrading from my IWII.  It looks
like that will change so I thought I'd ask again...

1. Is it the DeskJet or DeskWriter that offers compatibility with both 8 and
16 bit applications?

2. Is the DeskJet a worthwhile addition to have?  I've seen it advertised 
locally for $299.

3. How is the quality of the DeskJet output?

4. Are there any potential limitations I should be aware of regarding using
a DeskJet or DeskWriter on my GS?
