The upgrade to use the UniDisk is a ROM change, not a motherboard
change. You need a motherboard upgrade to use Apple's IIc memory
expansion card - the later IIc models have a slot and software to
support an expansion card. There is an Applied Engineering RAM card
which works in the older IIc.

The other upgrade you may need is to correct problems with the serial
ports at relatively high communications speeds. Some IIcs have
problems with some modems when communicating at 1200 bps or faster.
Fixing this requires a motherboard modification and a few extra components.

Yes. From BASIC, type PRINT PEEK(64447). The number you get will be:

255 Original IIc, no UniDisk 3.5 support
0 IIc with UniDisk 3.5 ROM
3 IIc with memory expansion card support
4 IIc with bug-fixed version of memory expansion card support
5 IIc+

The UniDisk 3.5 support ROM may be available from your Apple dealer.

Failing that, you can buy it from Alltech Electronics. A simple
modification to the motherboard is required to use the ROM.
