This is correct. An Apple III with Apple III ProFile interface card
is required, along with a special ROM which replaces the ProFile's ROM
(piggybacked onto the processor, which I seem to recall being a member
of the Z8 family). I'm not sure if special software is required on
the Apple III.

A friend of mine has done this for several ProFile drives - my user
group's BBS used to use ProFiles, and we cycled between a few of them,
doing a low-level format on each one after it failed (which was a
regular event).

We now use a SCSI drive, and the BBS is a lot more reliable. :-)
