I've never had the first problem, either with Twilight I or Twilight II.
The second problem is a known problem with Twilight I, and to a lesser
degree with Twilight II. If you have Twilight II, try turning off "Quick
Response" in the options screen; that will reduce Twilight II's system
overhead (but slightly reduce response time when you want to unblank the
system).

Definitely sounds like Twilight I. You should switch to Twilight II
(It's cooler, more comparible, and just plain nicer) if you can.
