Re: Help please - IIgs Error 0911

Hmmmm....

There could be other problems going on here. Like a cracked solder
tracing.
These can give you errors. Usually when the computer is cold too. What
happens is that when the computer is turned on, everything heats up and
things tend to expand. Then, when the computer is turned off things cool
down and they shrink. After enough time (especially if things get fairly
hot inside the computer when you use it) cracks begin developing.

If a crack gets large enough, it can (when you first start up) cause
problems. To check this out, you would need a fairly good magnifying
glass, a strong light, and about two hours. While looking at the solder
lines (you just start somewhere), take the light and move it around the
computer. Cracks will show up as dark hair lines across the solder
tracks when the light hits it right.

What to do about it? Buy a new motherboard maybe? Or if you feel real
lucky you can try fixing the problem. But >I< wouldnt' do that. I believe
Sun Remarketing sells //gs motherboards and there may be other places
which do also.

If it isn't a cracked solder line, then check your power supply with a
volt meter. Make sure it is giving you the proper amount of power. Also,
you may just be placing too large of a drain on your wall socket. Try
getting some extension cords and plug the hard disk into one socket, the
computer into another, and any other peripherals into a third (like lights,
printers, etc....). Then try booting everything cold. If this clears up
the problem, then it is a power load problem rather than anything else.

I hope this helps.
