To each his own. I use PCs at work, so one of my primary requirements
was a keyboard layout which was almost exactly the same as the PC; I
chose the Apple Extended Keyboard.  The only difference in the layout
are the Return, Delete and Backslash keys.

Agreed. I believe keyboards should have a consistant appearance.
Radically changing a keyboard every once in a while is not only
frustrating, but confusing.
