Aren't the characters already in the standard fonts, in the hi-ASCII area?
If so, you can access them by using modifier keys.  (like option key)

Pick up the cool freeware KeyFind NDA, available on cco.caltech.edu:pub/apple2
/addons/ndas/blah.

If it's not already in it, I'm sure there are Mac fonts in French.  Just leech
it.  :-)  They can be in TrueType (you'll need PointLess to run it), or
in Adobe Type 1 PostScripts (which will need a little conversion).

(maybe there are already //gs French fonts available.  Let's hope others
have some)
