Karateka

I finally tracked down my copy of Karateka the other day. Anyone remember
that one? Anyway, I forgot how to get past that gate made out of spikes.
I can do it on the Atari and C-64 versions by stepping under and backing
up quickly but it doesn't work on the Apple version. I haven't played on
the Apple in so long that I've forgotten. Help!!!
