Mostly what David said: Get a 4MB RAM card, a ZipGS 8/16, a RamFAST w/ 
256K, a 100+ MB hard drive and you will be happy.

Software: If you're going to use GS/OS much, you'll want Pointless; to 
print to non-Apple printers, Harmonie (1) or Independence (2). 
GraphicWriter III for DTP (maybe AWGS when Quality gets through upgrading 
it). 

Modem: SupraFax v32bis with ProTERM is probably the most popular 
high-speed combination in GSland.
