Ah, ummm ... ok. I should've clarified. Apologies. What I meant was really
that X wouldn't work. Personally, I see no gain whatsoever in using my
ftp client over using another machine's ftp client _unless_ I get some nice
bells and whistles, namely, X.
I am not using SLIP right now because the interactive account is cheaper,
and I am happy with the functionality of "standard" ftp and telnet.
So, what I meant to say was, probably: SLIP on a non-X machine does not
gain you much over uucp and interactive IP.
Oh, hmm ... thinking about it ... depending on the setup, it might. I am
lucky enough to be able to use bi-directional fast uucp, but many might
be stuck with the old -G variant ... in that case, SLIP is of course
a definite gain for polling news and the like.
