After a bit more playing around, I've discovered the following:
If I power-up all my accessories (printer, hard disks, etc.) first and THEN
turn on the //e itself, the TW starts up by itself at any time. I've had
all my peripherals chained off of one of the outlets on the back of my System
Saver //e so that I could flip one switch and turn them all on. This may have
been a bad practice to begin with, but it's only now appeared to bite me.
FURTHERMORE: It appears that I MUST have a card installed in Slot 7 (which
cannot be the TransWarp itself) or the system will hang regardless of how
I power it up. Since my ZVX4 8" disk controller requires Slot 7 and works
at high speed, this works out OK.
(I would have tried my RAMFast in Slot 7 for testing purposes, but the cable
was too short. I didn't bother to set slot 7 slow on the TW so I presume that
is why my tests with the Disk ][ and UniDisk 3.5 controller in Slot 7 didn't
work.... But having the ZVX4 in Slot 7 and powering up the //e by itself
works every time.)
Thanks for all the feedback I've gotten thus far. I hope these further
discoveries are helpful.
