Re: Repairing Disk ][ Drives
Well, first of all thanks to those of you who replied. I gave the drive
a good cleaning, and it worked a bit better, but I still had some problems.
Then I said to myself ("Self," I said.) I said "Hey, I remember that my Copy
][
+ program has a verify speed option. Hmm...maybe that would tell me someting."
So I checked. The drives are supposed to run between 198 and 202 ms. The good
drive was running at 200.8 ms and the bad one. . .206.4!!!!!
Carefully following the instructions in the Copy ][+ Manual I adjusted the
speed to 200.4 or something (couldn't get it exact - very sensitive). Now, it
seems that everything is working just fine. Ahh... what a relief. Now I can
finally download the ProDOS 2.0.3 from ftp.apple.com from my PC to my //e
where it can be useful.
Thanks again for keeping one fellas Apple ][ alive!
